We are pleased to announce the birth of our daughter, Kiran Irene Kishore! She was born this morning at 2:07am, weighing in at 5 lbs 14 oz., and is 18 inches long. Kiran came along two weeks early but is in perfect condition, as is Katie.
A few things people have already asked about are Kiran's name and a quick overview of her birth story. Her first name is an Indian name that both of us liked. Irene is the name of Katie's great-grandmother (her mother's mother's mother). Katie's mom, Mary K., was particularly close to her grandmother and was someone that we really wanted to honor.
Last night went very well. Katie started having painful contractions at dinner time. We talked to her midwife, Donna, at 9:00pm, who asked us to check back in an hour later. At 10:00, Donna told us to come to the hospital at 11:30. We got to the hospital at 11:45. Donna checked her and told us at Katie was already 5-6cm dilated. Katie was a champ, things started to roll, and Kiran arrived a few hours later! All in all, we feel very lucky that Katie's labor went so smoothly and quickly.
